A message to AMIS Volunteers

If you know an international student, please take a moment to reach out to them...a letter from Irene Wong ----

As you can imagine, international students are being impacted by the COVID-19 public health crisis.  For international students far from home, these are uncertain times: spring break travel plans have been disrupted, many are switching to online instruction, and some who live in on-campus housing have been asked to move out (although it seems that all schools are allowing students who can't go home, to request to stay).   As of today, Georgia Universities (GT, GSU, and KSU) have extended spring break to two weeks, and Emory is moving to remote learning following spring break.  It seems that the only thing certain is change during these rapidly changing times. AMIS's purpose, to be friends to international students and scholars in Atlanta remains unchanged.  If you are friends with an international student through our Amigo program, we encourage you to reach out to them to see how they are doing and offer your support.  They might appreciate knowing that you are thinking of them.   If you would like to reach out to us to offer specific support, please email us at office@amis-inc.org. Following the GA Governor's recommendations, the AMIS staff, Susan and I, are working from home going forward, so email is the best way to reach us.  Also, we are postponing our April events and will let you know updates as we get them. Praying for peace, health, and wholeness for all. Rev. Irene Wong Executive Director
