A Word From AMIS's Director

As AMIS works to kick off a new school year, Irene reflects on AMIS's impact on International Students.

Ayush enjoyed Christmas with long time AMIS volunteers, the Dews.

An international student from India, Ayush, who studied at Georgia Tech this past year, wrote this recently about his Amigo friends (pictured with them above):

I realize how fortunate I've been to count Carol and Jim as one of my first friends in the United States. Living so far away from home can often be lonely. Seeing a couple of warm and friendly faces always helps cheer me up. Having the pleasure of their company made, what would have otherwise been a hard first few months here, a whole lot easier.

You can read about the impact that AMIS has made this past year on international students like Ayush in our recently released 2018-2019 Annual Report.

As we are getting ready to welcome new international students who will be arriving in Atlanta this August, we need YOU to volunteer to be a friend to an international student from around the world. Would you sign up to be an Amigo friend to a new international student to our city?

Click here for our secure sign up form. It's easy to befriend an international student! We ask that you meet at least once for a meal, event, or outing (it can be an AMIS event) and continue the friendship as you both have time and opportunity. You will make a difference in a young person's life who is missing home and they will be a blessing to you in return! Sign up here.

Peace,

Rev. Irene Wong Executive Director
